About Me

Hi, my name's Chris Baker and I'm
the coordinator of "I want a word". I'm 26 years old and currently living in
Edinburgh (as you may be able to tell from the picture on the right), though I
grew up in the small town of Paignton in Devon. One of my big ambitions in life
is to be a successful author, which is what has given rise to this site.
At the moment, writing is very much
a hobby and my real career is science. I've just completed a PhD in
computational chemistry, with my main interest being in the way that we can use computers to
help us to design new drugs. At the moment, I'm on what I guess could be
described as a "career break", though I'm intending to resume the chemistry
after I've taken some time out to do a bit of travelling.
Away from work my main hobbies are
travel (as you may have guessed from the previous paragraph), football, swimming
and hiking. Below you can see a few pictures that I think do a reasonable job of
illustrating my life. They are, from left to right: playing football in Oxford;
licking a glacier on the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, and chilling out while
dressed as popular teen rocker L'il Chris.
